Named after Amrit Sarovar surrounding the Golden Temple, Amritsar is the most treasured city of Punjab. Founded in the 16th century by Guru Ram Da Ji, it has a rich history enveloping the Golden Temple, the Ram Tirath, and most prominently, the Jallianwala Bagh. Also, Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport, that is 11 km from the city centre, operates flights to several major cities in the country.
