Vadodara, earlier known as Baroda is the cultural capital of Gujrat. The city lights up at the time of Navratri and you should be here at this time for two reasons – No other city celebrates Navratri like Vadodra and nowhere else will you find Garba as good as in this city.
It's an educational hub and home to Gujrat's largest university – the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
Vadodra nests a long list of large-scale industries like Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Gujrat State Fertilizers and Chemicals, Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited (IPCL) and public sector units like the Heavy Water Project, Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited (GIPCL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC) & Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL). This city is racing to become the IT hub of Gujrat with industries like L&T and TCS building their own hubs here.
The people here are a friendly mix of young crowd, NRIs and the local residents who speak Hindi, Gujarati, and English. There are unlimited eateries around; popular restaurants such as Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Café Coffee Day, Barista and Barbecue Nation, crowd near the Alkapuri area.
Vadodra has its own airport with direct flights to Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. You can get around the city in app-based cabs, city buses, and auto-rickshaws.
There isn't much to see in the city but when you are here, pay a visit to these places- the Fatehsingh museum, Laxmi Vilas Palace, and the Pavagadh-Champaner.
Pavagadh-Champaner is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has its unique importance. The remains of the Islamic city and mosques feature Medieval architecture and were created by Jain and Hindu workers. Don't miss to see it.
