Located in the state of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala is one of the most popular Himalayan hill stations in the country. This popular hill station was established by the British in the early 1800s as a cantonment. The town is divided into Upper Dharamshala (also known as McLeodganj) and Lower Dharamshala. The town is also home to Tibetan government in exile and the 14th Dalai Lama. The best time to visit the city is between the months of October to February. The city’s closest airport is the Kangra Gaggal Airport, which is about 12 kms away and the closest railhead is Chamunda Marg, about half an hour’s drive away. A number of buses connect this hill station to the cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, and Shimla.
