Soon after approval, William Emerson was chosen as the architect.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>1906<\/strong> &#8211; The foundation stone was laid by the Prince of Wales.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>1906<\/strong> &#8211; Quickly after laying the foundation stone, the construction began and excavation started.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>1906 to 1920<\/strong> &#8211; Victoria Memorial faced various challenges regarding shortage of funds. The central dome and galleries were constructed during this time.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>1920 to 1921<\/strong> &#8211; Different artworks were installed. Various sculptures and other elements were ready to be placed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>1921<\/strong> &#8211; Construction was completed and the memorial was made open to the public.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Post-independence, various restoration works had been planned by the government. Internal renovation was also considered by the government. In 2021, the lawn opposite the memorial was deeply cleaned. In 2023, the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated a Biplobi Gallery. It was inaugurated on the Shaheed Diwas. The aim is to narrate the journey of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
