Think of your travel photos. Aren’t they so special, especially because you took them or you were in them? Do they tell a story of this stunning destination that you visited? Have you been able to capture the spirits of the city or the locals? If not, there are ways you can improve your photography, and you need not have an expensive camera, your phone will do.
#1 Thou Shalt Tell A Story
Don’t just click the pictures of the new place. Tell a story with your photo. If you want a picture of a particular building or landmark, wait for some people or a person to pass by and take your shot. If it is a frequently photographed site, then emphasise something or someone else. For example, if you are photographing Eiffel Tower choose a different angle that will highlight certain parts of the tower or have another subject and focus on them. It will give your shot a new dimension.
#2 Honour The Natural Frame
When focusing on a particular subject, try to find an angle from where the item will look like it has a natural frame. Particularly in ruins or temples, there is a lot of scopes. When shooting nature, for example, frame a mountain peak between two tall trees.
#3 Remember To Take Candid Shots
Remember, though your red pouting lips selfie looks nice and might get you hundreds of like on Facebook it won’t make as good a memory as the picture where you are sharing a hearty laugh with friends. So take pictures that are candid. Catch the moment when your kids are being funny with food, or your husband is fooling around with them, or when your girlfriend looks in awe at the Colosseum, not knowing you are taking her picture.
This is how you make beautiful memories.
#4 Let There Be Light
Light plays a crucial part in photographs so consider the light whenever you are planning to click some amazing shots of a landmark or people. The sunrise and sunset are a very good time for photo ops as the light is just perfect. Dawn and dusk have that perfect light needed for classy photographs. Plan accordingly to get some of the best shots from your trip taken at those hours.
#5 Thou Shalt Not Forget Mundane Local Life
Go to the local farmer’s market or the flea market, see the local buying, photograph the products. It might seem all mundane and routine stuff now, but later when you see them, you will find that they represent a slice of the local culture.
A perfect souvenir for your trip, that you can display on your living room wall.
