Best Valleys in Ladakh
1. Indus Valley
This is one of the most important valleys in the Leh-Ladakh region as is it the home to the Indus Valley civilization, the oldest known to mankind, which makes this valley an especially significant point to visit.
Apart from its rich history, there are great trekking options such as Temisgong and Likkir and the beautiful monasteries like Alchi to check out. With its pleasant weather and picture perfect surroundings, you should add this valley on your itinerary.
2. Dha Hanu valley
The Dha Hanu consists of two villages that have a large population of the Drokpa community. Out of these areas, Dha Hanu is the only two villages that tourists can visit. This valley offers stunning views and lush green surroundings.
Apart from the great location, you can also get a taste of the culture here and observe unique practices of the Drokpa community. The Dha Hanu valley is popular among tourists but attracts several anthropologists, too.
3. The Markha Valley
This valley is one of the best trekking spots in Ladakh. The trek is also popularly known as the tea house trek. You can also rent a parachute tent here and spend the night under the open sky, enjoying the quiet and the stars.
This is an ideal spot to visit with a large group of friends to enjoy the snow peaks, dunes and rivers. The Markha Valley trek will also take you through the Hemis National Park, which also offers some stunning sights.
4. Zanskar Valley
This is another famous spot for tourists who are visiting Ladakh. This is the highest valley of Jammu and is a treat for the senses as it stands 13,000 ft tall. There is a trekking trail for those who seek a little adventure.
During winter it is closed due to heavy snowfall, so summer is the time to visit. This stunning valley in Drang-Drung Glacier offers tourists great views of the calm streams and quiet meadows. This place is quite offbeat but is completely worth a visit. Visit between June to September.
5. The Nubra Valley
This is another good valley to visit, and it is also called the tri-arm valley. Here you will spot snow-clad mountains, ruined palaces, and ancient gompas. If you are a keen rider, you will be pleased to know that to reach this gorgeous spot you have to pass the Khardung La Pass – the highest motorable road in the world.
If you are Indian you do not need a pass to enter the valley. Do carry your camera to take pictures of the stunning landscape.
