Travellers who earlier saw India as a place to explore monuments or, in the case of Goa and Kerala, beaches are now looking for alternatives to enjoy on holiday.
According to a survey conducted by Thrillophilia, there has been a major jump in adventure travel in India. The stats from the survey show that adventure tourism in India has grown by a whopping 178% over the past 3 years.
Another interesting statistic is that more people preferred high altitude regions as an adventure destination. Out of the many, 27 % of the people opted to travel to the Himalayas for adventure sports. The survey also pointed out that the percentage of people travelling solo in India increased by 18%.
When it comes to groups, most people prefer going with friends rather than family. The second most popular option is with a partner or spouse, followed by family.
An interesting statistic in the survey was expenses. The survey showed that most people prefer to spend more than what it was a few years ago. Stats show that people are alright spending around Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 on a holiday. A few years ago, people were only willing to spend around Rs.10,000 on a holiday.
As far as activities go, people prefer to spend their time doing soft adventure sports such as hiking. Watersports was the most preferred activity, followed by trekking.
A shocking statistic was that the percentage of people who prefer Goa has decreased by 2%, showing that people are now more open to exploring offbeat destinations in India.
